Oil Away S-200 is a bioremediation accelerator designed to clean up hydrocarbon spills and leaks. It is a non-intrusive, cost-effective solution for substances such as gasoline, diesel fuels (#2–#6), jet fuel, kerosene, lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, crude oil, and similar materials.
It is a thin white liquid that can be applied using standard spraying equipment, including pressurized sprayers or backpack sprayers.
The recommended application rate is approximately 1:1 by weight—meaning 1 pound of Oil Away S-200 for every 1 pound of hydrocarbon being treated.
For surface spills, estimate the thickness of the hydrocarbon:
A spill approximately 5 mm thick = about 1 pound per square yard
Use this to calculate the amount of product needed at a 1:1 ratio
Apply approximately 1:1 by weight relative to the hydrocarbon.
For thicker spills: calculate based on surface thickness
For sheens: apply a light coating to fully cover the surface
The product will cause the oil to agglomerate into small gelatinous masses that can either be skimmed off or left to naturally bioremediate.
Lightly coat the entire sheen with Oil Away S-200. The sheen will rapidly contract into small masses, making it easier to remove or allowing natural breakdown on the water surface.
For contamination below 1 foot:
Turn or remove the soil
Apply enough product to fully wet the contaminated area
Ensure airflow to maintain aerobic conditions
For heavy contamination, reapply after one week.
Saturate the contaminated area by spraying or pouring Oil Away S-200
Allow it to encapsulate the oil (reducing odour and sheen)
Agitate with a nylon brush
Let sit for 3–4 hours minimum (overnight for best results)
Rinse or power wash
The treated area will begin to lighten within a few weeks and will continue to improve as the bioremediation process progresses.

Winter Application
Oil Away S-200 is uniquely suited for winter bioremediation, helping continue the cleanup process even in colder months.
Bioremediation does occur in cold climates, though it may take longer. A process that takes about two weeks in summer may take closer to four weeks in winter. Oil Away bonds with the hydrocarbon and remains in place until temperatures rise again, allowing naturally occurring bacteria to continue biodegrading the contamination.
When temperatures drop and bacteria become dormant, Oil Away does not need to be reapplied. It does not contain bacteria; instead, it provides the nutrients and delivery technology needed to support the natural biodegradation process when conditions allow.
Before applying Oil Away, the spill should be stopped and any free product cleaned up. Once that is complete, Oil Away can help polish the affected area safely and cost-effectively.
Using Oil Away during winter can help reduce environmental risks right away, rather than delaying cleanup until March or April. In many cases, the contamination may already be degraded by spring.
